Securing Your Communication

on

We send emails and text messages everyday. Did you ever wonder about how secure that information you are sharing really is? Most big companies like Facebook, Google, and Amazon thrive on user data. Tracking your moves, learning how you post, narrowing down what ads are relevant to you based on your activity, and so on. Well if you want to reclaim some of that privacy, then I recommend a couple areas to upgrade; email and texting.

Texting is an everyday occurrence for the smartphone user. Ever have a time where you had to share some sensitive financial information? How about sharing a password with a trusted person? Did you ever think it was secure? This is were I recommend the app called Signal. You can download it for Android, Desktop, and iOS. It is completely free and they don’t keep your info.

Signal messages and calls are always end-to-end encrypted and painstakingly engineered to keep your communication safe. We can’t read your messages or see your calls, and no one else can either.

The magazine Wired mentioned using Signal over all other messaging apps back in November of 2017. Check out the link to the article for more information. I recommend you do the same and, after all, it is free. You can now feel confident that information you text to someone is safe and secure.

Emailing occurs a lot throughout the week. Some people it is everyday. Eitherway, you’ll want to check out Proton Mail. Proton Mail is based out of Switzerland and has a few options when signing up. You can get the free account, which limits your storage space and how many emails you can send. I imagine most people these days for personal accounts will find the free account works great for them. There are no ads for the free account which is a plus! If you find yourself using it a lot, then there are the paid options starting at $4.99. Sometimes you can find deals online to lower the cost.

Proton Mail offers secure and encrypted email that is never scanned or checked. Your messages are your own and they do not belong to the company. Google is known for how it scans your emails to send you ads and other things. Proton Mail is a great alternative for those who do not want a company or anyone to be scanning through their emails. Proton Mail can be accessed via the web or using the Android and iOS apps. All of these are for free.

If you are concern about your privacy regarding communications, whether it is simple so nobody else can read your info or to protect sensitive financial information flowing to and from people, then I highly recommend you get both Signal and Proton Mail. They are easy to use, clean interfaces, ad free, and provide you with the security you need. It will help put your mind at ease knowing your information is secure!
